Fighting the fire was nothing, but getting their truck out of a ditch proved to be somewhat of a challenge. It only took Shreveport firefighters a few short minutes to put out the house fire on Martha Street. That's after they nearly wore themselves out stretching 700-feet of hose down an entire block.

Unfortunately it took a lot longer to save a pumper truck than it did the house.

Acting District Chief Glenn Harris says the driver was trying to make a sharp turn on the very narrow street when the back of the truck went into the ditch. Instead of sitting and dwelling on the accident, the firefighters immediately jumped off and ran to the fire..

"That's a lot of training. We train for this all the time. It kicked in and we knew what to do," said Harris.

Harris says saving the house, not their truck, was the main concern.

Before they could get the pumper out of the ditch, firefighters had to drain four tons of water from it. Once the load was lightened, the truck was ready to be towed.

No one was hurt in the fire or the truck accident.
