While another northwest Louisiana sheriff joined the list of others backing Paul Carmouche for Congress, four area members of the state legislature lined up behind John Fleming.
GOP Senators Sherry Smith Cheek and Buddy Shaw, and Representatives Henry Burns and Jane Smith issued statements of support for Fleming.
Sen. Smith Cheek says of Fleming, "At this critical juncture for our country, it is crucial that we are represented by someone who shares our conservative principals and will work well with others to stabilize the economy, improve jobs and protect the future of our families through protecting opportunities such as the Haynesville Shale."
Sen. Shaw feels "confident that my vote is in support of an exceptionally competent and trustworthy candidate. I believe Dr. John Fleming will give total attention to the merit of the issue and will not act on the basis of political expediency."
Rep. Smith says of the Minden doctor and businessman, "(Fleming) understands the needs of this district and we need to send someone to Washington that has keen business sense and a proven track record in job creation and company growth."
And Rep. Burns added, "I support (Fleming's) business philosophy and believe he will use his experience to create and protect jobs in Washington. We need a Congressman that understands the economy and isn't afraid to make the hard decisions to put this country on the right track."
Meantime, Bienville Parish Sheriff John Ballance announced his support for Democrat Paul Carmouche. He said, “He has a great record as Caddo District Attorney. The attacks on him are false, and he will be a great representative for the 4th Congressional district. I know he will continue to look out for the needs of law enforcement so that our streets remain safe.”
