Fort Polk will receive $166 million to upgrade its barracks and make drainage and erosion repairs.

The funding from the Army comes after an inspection of barracks facilities throughout the Army. Fort Polk was among eight Army posts found to need immediate attention, the Army said.

"We've got some ugly barracks around the Army," said Maj. Gen. John Macdonald.

The Army has set aside $250 million for the work at all posts.

Among the work at Fort Polk is new heating and air conditioning systems around the post, renovations to 15 barracks, and drainage and erosion work to prevent mold problems.
