General Motors says it is offering employee discounts to everyone on almost all of its remaining 2008 model vehicles, as well as a few of its 2009 models.

Those discounts are generally 10 percent below invoice price, although they vary by model.

GM said the incentives will be offered on all 2008 vehicles except its medium-duty pickups. It will also extend the incentive on a handful of 2009 models.

The discount comes as GM struggles to boost its declining sales amid a weak economy, high gas prices and a shift in demand away from its traditionally popular trucks and SUVs.

GM has offered limited employee pricing in the past, but this week's announcement is the first time since 2005 the employee price incentive was extended to all buyers. The previous sale was credited with helping boost GM sales and also prompted both Ford and Chrysler to offer their own employee-pricing plans.

The 2009 models included in the sale are the Chevrolet Cobalt and HHR, the Pontiac Vibe and G5 and the Cadillac CTS, GM said. The offer runs from Aug. 20 to Sept. 2.
