Funeral services for City Pool Manager Coach J.D. Garrett will take place on Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m., at the Natchitoches Events Center, located at 750 Second Street in the Natchitoches Historic District.

Garett, 70, was in the middle of giving swim lessons, when he suffered an apparent heart attack and drowned.

Garrett was a native of Natchitoches and played running back for Grambling State University from 1961 to 1963, and then for the NFL's New England Patriots through 1967.

He also served four terms on the Natchitoches Police Juror representing district three.
