Summer vacations are underway, but many are not taking long distance trips due to the record gas prices.

Tourism officials in Jefferson, Texas say instead of seeing more out of state tourists, there are more local tourists.

"We're trying to do I guess what they call now home vacations or your state vacations with the kids being out of school for the summer, We just trying to take advantage of all the things we can in our local area," says Jeanette McDermott of Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Some bed and breakfast managers we spoke with say their weekday business is busier than their weekend business.
