A specially called meeting regarding the future of Caddo School Superintendent Dr. Gerald Dawkins ended before it started today.
Dawkins announced his plan to leave the Caddo Parish School Board at the end of his contract on August 11th.
Several things could have happened at this special meeting today. Because the board did not approve a contract extension Dawkins could have have come to board and re-negotiated the terms of that extension. Instead Dawkins has announced that he plans to leave the district at the end of his current contract. Sources tell KTBS 3 News that finding a new superintendent before the start of next school year could be difficult. Board members could appoint an interim superintendent after Dawkins leaves giving the board more time to search.
The board must now notify the State Department of Education that Dawkins plans to vacate his job. The state will then give approval to post the job. And at that time the board can start looking for a new superintendent.
