A Bossier Parish man has been arrested on charges he hit another man with a horse halter after accusing him of stealing some of his bridle gear.

Jose Ponse Martinez, 38, of Hurricane Bluff, is accused of hitting the other man over the head with a nylon horse halter. Sheriff’s deputies said Martinez was drunk and had accused the victim of stealing some horse tack.

Martinez was booked on charges of aggravated battery. The other man was taken to the hospital to get staples in his head to close the wounds, Bossier deputies said.

The incident happened at a horse training center off Louisiana Highway 3 just south of Benton.
