Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal has declared a state of emergency throughout Louisiana in response to severe weather this week in Caddo-Bossier and two other areas of the state.
The governor's office announced the emergency proclamation today, saying it will facilitate coordination of various state agencies and will be a step in getting federal help if the amount of damage reaches a certain threshold. FEMA and state officials were surveying the damage here today.
Heavy rains and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Thursday caused flash floods, wind damage and power outages in spots around the state.
More than 300 homes have been damaged In Caddo Parish -- most by flooding, authorities said. No one was killed.
One death in the town of Grosse Tete was blamed on the weather after a pecan tree fell onto a camper, killing a 77-year-old man.
The declaration affects Caddo, Bossier, Tangipahoa, Washington, West Baton Rouge, East Carroll, Livingston and St. Martin parishes.
