A judge has canceled an upcoming hearing for an Arkansas man accused of killing his 6-year-old neighbor, pending a mental evaluation.
Twenty-eight-year-old Zachary Holly was slated to have a hearing Thursday, but a judge on Monday called it off. Prosecutor Van Stone says another hearing will be scheduled after the court receives a report from the State Hospital. That process could take months.
Holly has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, rape, kidnapping and residential burglary in the November death of 6-year-old Jersey Bridgeman in the northwest Arkansas city of Bentonville. The young girl's death ended a short life marred by abuse. Her father and stepmother are in prison after they chained her to a dresser in 2011.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Holly.
