The amount of rain that pounded Shreveport-Bossier Tuesday night set records for the amount of rainfall in a one-, two- and three-hour period, the National Weather Service said.
No records are expected to be set today -- but rain has been falling much of the day and a heavy band of rain and thunderstorms are expected tonight.
The rain slacked up late this morning and forecasters said there should be a break in the rain this afternoon. But that band of heavy rains is expected to move into the area late tonight and early Thursday. The rain is not expected to end until later in the day on Thursday.
Nearly 10.5 inches of rain had fallen in Shreveport between Tuesday night and noon today.
The National Weather Service said 4.43 inches of rain fell in a one-hour period Tuesday night -- a record amount for that period of time. The old record was 3.16 inches.
Records were also set for the amount of rain in a two-hour period: 5.73 inches. There was also a record for a three-hour period: 6.51 inches.
There is good news: the weather is expected to be pleasant on Friday -- sunny with highs in the upper 70s.
