Holiday Travel Tips
This is one of the biggest travel weeks of the year. According to Triple-A more than 43 million people will drive or fly at least 50 miles for the Thanksgiving Holiday. An increase over last year's numbers.
So how do you get in and out of the airport without too much hassle?
KTBS-3's Sara Machi spoke with airport officials at Shreveport Regional Airport to get some advice for holiday travelers.
They said that overall Thanksgiving travel is expected to rise about 11% this year over last year, but at the airport, authorities say they'll probably see the same numbers as last year.
Airport officials said that you shouldn't push it when you arrive for a flight. The busy time today will be around noon when quite a few flight departures almost overlap.
Also, the carriers here report their flights are full or near capacity. Airport authorities say they prepare for days like today, but there are ways you can come prepared.
Bryant Francis, who works at Shreveport Regional Airport said they are, "recommending that you show up at least 90 minutes prior to departure because you may find longer lines than you would normally encounter on a typical day of travel."
So here are some tips for anybody flying for the holidays:
-Check flight status
-Give yourself extra time
-Follow TSA security regulations
-Don't wrap gifts
