A home invasion in broad daylight. Shreveport police say two men forced their way into a house, then forced the man inside to give them his property.
The victim, who asked not to be identified, says the men took off with several guns and computers. Det. Roy Menefee says the victim did what everybody should do in a case like this. He complied with their demands.
Detective Michael McConnell says while these types of home invasions aren't very common, they do happen and it's important you be prepared.
Menefee says the best thing you can do is get to a designated safe room. Ones like the one featured in the popular Jody Foster movie "Panic Room" are ideal. Of course very few homes actually have them, but every home does have a bathroom.
Menefee says always keep a cell phone in your pocket so you can call police. He says cordless phones won't always work.
It may not sound like such an easy thing to do at the time, but police say stay as calm as possible until help arrives.
Police say the two men who committed today's home invasion left in a black Honda Passport. Both of them had their faces covered, so their descriptions are sketchy at this time. If you have any information regarding the home invasion, call Crimestoppers at (318) 673-7373.
