When St Jude Children's Research Hospital opened its doors in February, 1962, the word "cancer" was considered a death sentence. Survival rates for childhood cancer were less than four percent.
Because of the research done at St Jude, those odds have improved to more than 80 percent overall.
Jinny Cardozier of Campti, Louisiana, is a living example of the difference research findings at St Jude have made in the treatment of childhood cancer. She's a 34 year survivor of Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Research done at St Jude helps doctors develop treatments to improve patient's chances of beating cancer. All research findings at St Jude are freely shared with doctors around the world.
Research is just one of the things your donations to the KTBS 3 St Jude Dream Home help provide.
The 2012 KTBS 3 St Jude Dream Home is currently under construction in Shreveport's Provenance Subdivision. The four bedroom, three bath home is located at 2017 Fairwoods Drive.
Tickets are on sale now. They're one hundred dollars each. Call 1-800-724-2423 to purchase a ticket. All tickets bought before June 18 are eligible for the Early Bird Prize, a brand new four-wheeler courtesy of G&C Honda.
The KTBS 3 St Jude Dream Home is one of nearly 20 prizes we'll draw for during a live broadcast on August 12.
