On the second floor of Government Plaza in downtown Shreveport, one chair sits empty and another will soon do the same.
Mayor Cedric Glover is still recovering from his leg injury and ensuing surgery. But Mayor Glover's prolonged stay at CHRISTUS Schumpert hospital hasn't kept the mayor from staying busy. He's been regularly joining council and committee meetings by phone and staffers say the mayor is reviewing and signing paperwork from his hospital bed. Glover's Twitter account is also seeing plenty of activity.
"You know the interesting thing is his legs don't work but his brain still works," said Chief Administrative Officer Dale Sibley.
Sibley says the mayor is still very actively involved in city decisions. But it's still not clear how long Glover's recovery will be.
Meanwhile, Assistant CAO Brian Crawford will leave to start his new job as fire chief in Plano, Texas, on December 3, 2012. Crawford has been the point man on budget issues and will leave before the council votes on the 2013 Operating Budget.
"Yeah when you lose that person it becomes a challenge," Sibley said. "But in this business we always have those challenges because we always have people coming and going."
City officials say communications between the mayor's office and the city council has not been affected. But some council members say communications haven't been up to par in some time, so no change should not mean much.
