Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is heading to Arizona this weekend to meet with Republican presidential contender John McCain -- fueling speculation Jindal is on the short list as McCain's running mate in the November presidential election.

Jindal's office said today the governor and his wife, Supriya, are spending the Memorial Day weekend at McCain's ranch.

Press secretary Melissa Sellers said the Jindals will travel to Arizona on Friday. She said Jindal "values this as another opportunity to meet with a national leader, and the

potential next president of the United States, to discuss issues important to the future growth of Louisiana."

At least three Republicans mentioned as potential vice presidential running mates were invited to McCain's ranch for the weekend. Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and former presidential candidate Mitt Romney will also go to meet with McCain this weekend, the New York Times reported.

A McCain aide said the visit was social and not a vetting of possible running mates.

Jindal has been Louisiana governor since January. Before that, he was a Congressman representing suburban New Orleans.

Jindal has repeatedly said he has the job he wants.
