LSU is asking state lawmakers to raise the fees it can charge students.
University officials said today the LSU campuses around the state want to raise professor pay and to invest new money into programs that are facing accreditation troubles.
University System President John Lombardi said the colleges' fees are low compared to the average of comparable schools in the South. He said if the colleges raise what they charge students, they would also provide more financial aid to help poorer students attend.
The proposal will be considered by lawmakers in the regular legislative session that begins Monday. Specifics haven't been announced.
