BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- The House has approved a $10 million plan to use taxpayer money to send New Orleans children to private schools.

Governor Bobby Jindal supports the proposal that would cover children in kindergarten through third grade in the 2008-09 school year, with subsequent grades added in future years. It would apply to lower income parents whose children attend schools in one of the worst systems in the country.

The House approved the measure with a vote of 60-42. It moves to the Senate.
