Republican state Treasurer John Kennedy continued to put the presidential race front and center in Louisiana's U.S. Senate race, trying to draw a line between him and
Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu.

Kennedy touted himself as a solid conservative supporting GOP presidential contender John McCain and noted that Landrieu is supporting Democratic candidate Barack Obama. Kennedy says Obama doesn't mirror Louisiana's views. Landrieu says the presidential race is separate from the Senate race.

Sunday night's debate was the second face off of the campaign season, but the stakes were higher: It was the first debate broadcast statewide.

Landrieu is seeking her third term in office, while Kennedy is
making his second bid for the U.S. Senate.

The election is Nov. 4. The Sunday debate was televised by
Louisiana Public Broadcasting.
