Two local churches participated in the national bell ringing in memory of the lives lost one week ago at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.

Governor Bobby Jindal issued a proclamation Thursday calling for a statewide moment of silence Friday, December 21 at 9:30 A.M. in memory of the 26 victims who lost their lives in the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

The moment of silence was requested by Connecticut Governor Daniel Malloy, who  invited all states to stand with the citizens of Connecticut in mourning for the victims of this tragedy. The moment of silence occured at 9:30AM in each state’s respective time zone. Governor Malloy also asked that places of worship and government buildings, which have the ability, to ring bells 26 times during that moment of silence

Friday morning Saint Mark's Cathedral and the United Methodist Church in Shreveport took part in the observance.
