Kids from around Shreveport took the stage today at Centenary's Marjorie Playhouse to help remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Mahogany Ensemble Theater held its second annual MLK Oratory Competition and Young Leadership Award. The event is part of Dream Week following MLK Day and honor's King's legacy, as well as the area's civil rights heritage.

"There were various meetings held at churches throughout our area," Mahogany's Angelique Evans said. "So, we feel that being able to recognize and honor that rich legacy of Dr. King coming here and helping being part of the wonderful and vast history of our civil rights movement, bother for voting as well as education. So, our young people that come today, and we are here to honor them for being the next generation of change makers."

The event was also sponsored by the City of Shreveport.
