A Caddo Parish man doesn't like the way his fire district is spending its tax money. He claims to have requested audits of its budget for the past 5 years and hasn't had much luck getting them. Now, he's looking for help from the state.

Kristian McCain is reading an internal audit of Fire District 6's 2009 budget. He says one of his top concerns is salaries but can't find a clear answer. McCain says the audit only gives him a general summary. He wants more details but says the district won't give the information.

"Some of the problem is that we supported that new tax to get our station manned 24/7, and at times it's still not being manned," McCain said.

On Thursday, he brought the issue to Caddo Commissioners. It wasn't the first time. McCain says he did before around a year ago. This time the commission told him they'll contact Fire District 6 officials. McCain went ahead and sent a letter to the state, along with a petition with around 100 signatures from his neighbors, demanding more audits.

"The petition was gotten together, and we sent this letter to the attorney general's office to have a 5 year audit done on fire district 6," McCain said. "Find out where our money is...."

McCain says he won't give up his efforts even if he doesn't get the state's help. KTBS contacted the fire district but no one was available for comment.
