Local shelters serve thousands Thanksgiving dinners

Thousands of the area's homeless or less fortunate are getting their Thanksgiving dinners from a shelter. The Salvation Army served more than 1,200 at its shelter and through mobile units combined. Clothida Greg was once a volunteer at the Army. Now, she and her family are among many served today. They're using the time to escape their troubles and reflect on what they're thankful for. Greg says she's thankful for the Salvation Army.

"The Salvation Army opens its doors to several people," she said. "It's an opportunity for people to get back on their feet. It's a chance for you to start your life all over."

Meanwhile, the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission served about 800 Thursday. 600 meals were delivered to those in need and home bound. Around 200 came to the shelter.

More than 40 people volunteered today at the mission. The Salvation Army had more than 300.
