The man injured on Monday when a car crashed through the front of a Bossier City restaurant and hit him as he ate lunch with his family was hospitalized in fair condition today with leg injuries, authorities said.

The accident happened at Gumbo to Geaux on Barksdale Boulevard in south Bossier.

Police said John Lewis, 32, his wife Bernadette and their 5-year-old son were sitting at a table when a Lincoln Town Car came crashing through the front window.

"They were just fixin' to eat when, all of a sudden, it happened," restaurant owner Kevin Aycock said.

The car didn't stop until it hit the counter, which hit Aycock. The counter also hit some cooking equipment, setting off a small fire.

Lewis was taken to LSU Hospital in Shreveport. His wife and son were treated at the hospital and released.

The car's 73-year-old driver told police she thought she was hitting the brake when she instead hit the accelerator. She and two passengers in her car were not injured.

Police did not file charges against the woman, saying it was an accident.
