Police are looking for a gunman in Marshall. Around 1:30 Friday morning, a man was found dead with a bullet wound to his head. 28-year-old David James Cherry was better known as "Cherry Bomb" to his friends and family. Officers say when they got to Cherry's home on Georgetown Road, he had already passed away from his injury. Those close to the victim say they're angry because his life was ended so soon.
LaQuita Hardeman says "he didn't get what he deserved, I don't think no one should have to loose their life. And the way he lost his life, is not cool, but guess what, God is the judge."
Hardeman and Cherry were cousins. She says, Cherry was a good guy. "Everywhere you seen him, he was smiling, shaking everybody's hand. If he had an enemy, it's because you made yourself his enemy."
After the shooting they're left with questions while trying to pick up the pieces. Adrienne Jackson, a friend of the family, says "Who and why? What was the reason? The whole purpose of it? If it was a robbery, then let it be a robbery, but why take his life?"
Hardeman continued, "We were the ones in there cleaning up that blood and looking at brain fragments of my first cousin."
Marshall Police officers say they're looking to take the gunman off the streets but they need help from the community.
"Our crimestoppers is totally anonymous. So that person can leave that information and they don't have to worry about their name getting out."
Until they find justice, Hardeman says this family will says they'll lean on their faith. "We know that God is alive, and he's here by our side. There's no reason to sit around crying and moping because he was a great dude."
Marshall Police officers say, Cherry, the victim, had a criminal history and that could be a factor in this crime.
