Police in Marshall are investigating a murder and the accused killer is a teenager. Police say he stabbed his step-father to death. It happened around 11:30 Wednesday at a home in the 500 block of West Meredith street in Marshall. People close to the victim's family tell KTBS 3 news that 14 year old Sigmund Johnson is the young man behind bars tonight. The teen is charged with 1st Degree Murder for killing his 39-Year-Old stepfather, William Ashley Alford.
Police were called to West Meredith because of a stabbing. That's when they say they found William Ashley Alford with multiple stab wounds. They took Alford to Good Shepherd Medical Center where he later died. Marshall police say they arrested a juvenile and charged him with 1st degree murder. Friends of the family say, that juvenile was Alford's step son, Sigmund Johnson. They say, a mother lost not only her husband, but her son as well. "We're praying for her, but she's in a bad state right now, but she got her friends and family and we're going to stand beside her," said Erma Mitchell of Alford's widow and Johnson's mother.
Police are still investigating what happened leading up to the stabbing. Johnson is in jail in the Willoughby Juvenile Detention Center in Marshall. The Harrison County District Attorney's office is still charging Johnson as a juvenile at this point. Johnson could be tried as an adult if evidence warrants.
