Mayor gets list of fire chief applicants

All 27 applicants who took the civil service test for Shreveport fire chief passed. The list now goes to Mayor Cedric Glover, who plans to interview each of them before he makes his decision.

The mayor does not have a deadline for choosing the fire chief to succeed Kelvin Cochran, who retired at the end of the year to become fire in Atlanta, a spokeswoman said. David Glass is the interim fire chief but does not want the job permanently.

Thirty-two people applied to be fire chief and 27 wound up taking the test. All scored at least the minimum 75.

The top scorers were Scott Wolverton, chief safety officer of the Shreveport Fire Department, and Thomas Ezell, a fire training officer with the Monroe Fire Department. Both scored a 92.
