For the first time in 20 years, U.S. Rep. Jim McCrery of Shreveport voted for someone other than himself in the 4th Congressional District election.

McCrery, who is not seeking re-election, cast an early ballot this morning for the Sept. 6 Republican primary.

"I think it's the right time for me to let somebody else do this job," McCrery said of his decision not to seek re-election. "I hope we elect somebody from this district that's young enough to stay there for a while, like I did, to gain seniority, to gain influence in the House of Representatives."

McCrery has endorsed Republican Jeff Thompson of Bossier City.
