Law officers today continued their search for two people presumed drowned in the River River near Coushatta, while family and friends waited for word and prepared to hold a memorial service near the accident site.

Missing are Hannah Griffith, 15, of Fairview Alpha, a sophomore at Lakeview High School in Natchitoches Parish; and David Loftin Jr., 25, of Martin.

Griffith and Loftin were among six people in an overload fishing boat that sank shortly after they pushed off from shore early Thursday.

The other four in the boat swam to safety. Red River Sheriff Johnny Ray Norman said it appeared the overloaded boat and the swift river current were factors in the accident.

A memorial service for Griffth and Loftin is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Coushatta boat launch on the Red River.

Searchers are checking the river from the bridge where the accident happened to the lock and dam downriver.
