A memorial service is planned Tuesday to honor the life of Charles "Budgie" Roemer, II. It will be held at 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church of Shreveport.

The family will receive friends tonight from 4-7 p.m., at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.

Roemer, 89, who fought a ten year battle with Alzheimer's died in his sleep Saturday.

Roemer, the father of former Louisiana Governor Charles "Buddy" Roemer, managed Edwin Edwards successful campaign for governor in 1971. He also served as Edwards' Commissioner of Administration.

He is survived by his wife Adeline McDade Roemer and their five children, Buddy Roemer and wife Scarlett, Margaret Roemer Lefler, Danny Roemer and wife Judy, Melinda Roemer Barrett and husband Michael, and Melanie Roemer Melville and husband David; seventeen grandchildren; and thirty-six great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Hilman House Inc., 644 Herndon Street, Shreveport, LA 71101.
