MARSHALL, Texas -- Brandy Bussey, the Harrison County, Texas woman who smoked methamphetamine with her 2-year-old daughter nearby, was sentenced today to two years in prison.

The jury, which deliberated less than an hour before agreeing on the sentence, also also imposed extended probation that would send Bussey to prison for seven more years if she gets in trouble again.

Bussey, who had been free on bond pending sentencing, cried as the verdict was announced. She was immediately taken to jail.

Bussey, 26, of Hallsville, pleaded guilty in Harrison County Court in Marshall this week to charges of child endangerment and drug charges. She faced a sentence ranging from probation to 20 years in prison.

The jury saw a videotape, secretly recorded by a police informant, that showed Bussey and a man using drugs while her daughter lay on a couch less than eight feet away. People in the room were loading syringes, using drugs and cursing. Bussey could be heard on the tape referring to her daughter several times.

Prosecutors said the child tested positive for drugs in her system, apparently from being exposed to second-hand smoke.

Bussey's daughter is in the custody of the state and any visitation has been under child protective services supervision, Harrison County District Attorney Joe Black said.

The man in the video received an 18-month sentence for endangering a child, Black said.
