Miller County installs drug drop off box

Texarkana area residents wanting to drop off their unused or expired medications can now do so at any time.

A prescription drug drop box has been installed at the Miller County Sheriff's Office.

Residents can now conveniently and legally dispose of their old medications, such as sedatives and pain killers.

The drop box is similar to a post office mailbox, Sheriff Ron Stovall says it's been installed in a well lit area and will be monitored by cameras.

Authorities say the box will be checked daily.

"Any prescription drugs that are placed here will be inventory, counted, weighed and will be secured until we take them to the crime lab in hope where they'll be diposed of in a safe manner, said Sheriff Stovall.

The drug drop off boxes are part of a statewide effort to fight prescription drug abuse.
