A Minden man charged with manslaughter in connection to a November 2011 beating death is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty in Webster Parish District Court this week.
During court proceedings Monday LaVerto Shyne, of the 100 block of Abney Street, Minden entered a plea of guilty to manslaughter with a sentencing cap of 25 years. Sentencing for the 30-year-old has been set for December 7.
Shyne, who remains incarcerated at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center in Webster Parish, is accused of beating his 48-year-old uncle, Wynne Elliott Shyne, to death during an altercation late last year.
Wednesday Webster Parish Assistant District Attorney Jack Montgomery said his office agreed not to multi-bill Laverto Shyne in relation to prior criminal charges in exchange for a guilty plea on the manslaughter charge.
In the state of Louisiana manslaughter convictions carry a maximum penalty of up to 40 years imprisonment at hard labor. According to Montgomery, the 25-year cap as it relates to Shyne’s case is part of a plea agreement.
