Chris Broussard loves to help students.

Two years ago, a group of students were put into a classroom and labeled as being at-risk.

"They were all smart but they were not performing, so I knew they needed something extra," said Broussard.

Chris Broussard teamed up with Cora Lou Robinson to give Robinson's students a chance at success.  Every Friday for a year they met.

Broussard used art to tap into a different part of their brains, improving their ability to learn.  "Instead of going to the front door, we're going to the side door but we're going to get to your brain and we're going to open up all the possibilities so that you can see that you're not a bad kid," Broussard said.

After a year, their attitudes, behavior and grades improved.  A lot of them are now honor students and have passed the leap test.

Broussard is now receiving an Angle Award from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana.  The award is given to volunteers who do outstanding work with Louisiana's children.

Each recipient will receive a $20,000 grant for their charitable organization.

They will be honored at a ceremony in Baton Rouge later this month.
