Hybrids are hot items right now.  New data shows hybrid sales jumped 38% last year, even as overall vehicle sales dropped 3 percent.

While the rising cost of gas may play into some buyers' decision-making, it's not the main reason.  Analysts say buyers now have more options and many wanted to wait to make sure the technology was proven.

As gasoline prices continue to climb, so does the hype about gas-saving products like devices that pump air into your carburetor, additives you put in your tank and magnets that claim to change the molecular strategy of gasoline.  

The Federal Trade Commission warns these gadgets and additives don't work.  In fact, the EPA has tested many of them and says it's never found one that provides significant savings.

More people are disconnecting their home phones and relying solely on cellular service.
