Thunderstorms that moved through the ArkLaTex today left wind damage in several counties and parishes.
The rain that has fallen off and on all day is expected to move out of the area tonight -- although there was still one last band moving through late this afternoon.
About 1,700 people in Caddo, Bossier and Red River parishes were without power at one point late this morning. Three-hundred outages were reported in Shelby and Gregg counties in East Texas. All but 900 in Red River Parish, 184 in Caddo Parish and 100 in Shelby County had been restored late this afternoon.
People who live near Pecan Point along the Red River outside Texarkana are continuing to watch the river level. Officials said the Red has been just over 22 feet all day but is expected to reach 25 feet -- one foot over flood stage -- late tonight. No homes had flooded this afternoon.
High winds blew trees and limbs down all over the area.
The storms were particularly rough in Winn Parish, where a funnel cloud was spotted. One person was injured when a tree fell on a car, the sheriff's office said. High winds damaged the roof of the school in the town of Atlanta southwest of Winnfield and there was also damage to several homes and a church in Atlanta. The Weather Service has not confirmed whether it was a tornado.
A tree fell across a house on Hart Bluff Road in DeSoto Parish this morning. No one was injured, the Sheriff's Department said. Trees were also down in several areas along U.S. Highway 71 south of Coushatta, the National Weather Service said.
There was extensive wind damage in several parts of Sabine Parish, including around Zwolle and Ebarb. Several weather-related traffic accidents also were reported, although no serious injuries were reported. High schools in Many and Pleasant Hill let out early because of power outages.
Lightning hit a drilling rig in the Mount Moriah community in Claiborne Parish, causing a fire, the Weather Service said.
Trees were down across roads near Saline in Bienville Parish, and falling trees took out several power lines, sheriff's officials said.
Water was across one road near Mount Enterprise in Rusk County, Texas, and there was also wind damage in the county, the Weather Service said.
Heavy rains fell much of the morning, although the intensity slacked off by late morning. More showers moved back into the area much of the afternoon.
