Mother Speaks Out After Daughter Is Shot

It's been three days since a three year old Shreveport girl was hit by a stray bullet in her home while a gun fight took place outside.

The incident has the girl's mother speaking out.  Deloria Cooper was home with her three kids when gun fire rang in front of her mother's home in the 3100 Block of Darien Street Wednesday evening.

"We were just sitting in the room watching TV and gunshots just came from everywhere and my kids were yelling mom somebody is shooting.and I was like you all get on the floor," said Cooper.

Two bullets came through the house, one of which struck her three year old daughter, Tamara Pearson in the leg.  Cooper and her family ducked and dodged through the house while the gun fire ensued, before she realized that her daughter had been hit.

Cooper says the incident is every parents worst nightmare.

"I couldn't do nothing but drop to my knees and god please don't let this happen to me, please don't take her from me," said Cooper.

Tamara was rushed to LSU Health Shreveport.  She has had two surgeries to help slightly repair the damage to her left leg.  Her mother says while that has helped dull the pain, that her daughter is still shaken up by what happened.

"She jumps in her sleep, she knows what happened to her, she'll wake up and say momma they hurt my leg when they shot me," said Cooper.

Tamara is set to have a third surgery in the coming days to help further repair her leg.  Cooper is hopeful that her daughter will be able to return home in the next week or so.
