NW Arkansas student dies from meningitis
Authorities say a student at Northwest Arkansas Community College has died from meningitis and health officials are working to find people who had close contact with him.
Students, faculty and staff were notified Monday that they may have been exposed to the illness. People exposed can still be vaccinated.
Fayetteville television station KHOG reports (http://is.gd/0JKAq4 ) that the student died on Nov. 18.
People at the college were advised to seek medical attention immediately if they experience symptoms that include fever, intense headache, irritability or a rash.
Workers at the school are disinfecting high-traffic areas and rooms known to have been visited by the student, whose name wasn't released.
Provost Steven Gates says thoughts and prayers from the campus go out to the student and his family.
