A Texarkana, Texas, man faces capital murder charges in the death of a two year old.

It happened Friday evening in the 700 block of West 26th Street.Police say Dalton Slaten, 2, died in a Little Rock hospital on Saturday morning.

They say Jimmy Paul Mahone, 32, lived in an apartment next to the Slaten family, andwas watching young Dalton.

Mahone told police the toddler fell off the porch. After further investigation, Mahone was arrested and charged with capital murder.

Neighbors say they were stunned and saddened by the child's death. "It made me feel bad because it could have been my son.

My son also goes over there with Paul, " said Kierra Cooper.Mahone's bond has been set at $1.5 million.

The family has set up a fund in the name of Dalton Slaten at the First National Bank of Linden, Texas.
