Brigadier Gen. James C. Yarbrough will become the new commander of Fort Polk and the Joint Readiness Training Center in Vernon Parish, the Army said.
He will succeed Major Gen. Daniel Bolger, who will become commander at Fort Hood in Texas.
Yarbrough is currently the commander of the Iraqi Assistance Group in the war in Iraq.
Yarbrough, 50, was born in Georgia and was raised in an Army family. He earned a bachelor of science degree in management from Tulane University and, as a Distinguished Military Graduate, was commissioned a second lieutenant of infantry.
The Army has not said when when Yarbrough will assume command at Fort Polk.
