Newport man convicted in son's death

NEWPORT, Ark. -

A jury in Newport has convicted a man of capital murder in the death of the man's 2-year-old son.

KAIT reports that the jury took must more than a half-hour to find Richard Ingram guilty in the August 2010 death of Damarrius Thomas. Ingram was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

An autopsy found that the child suffered internal bleeding due to a broken back and had head injuries.

Ingram admitted to shaking the child -- but said the injuries were an accident.
