Norton's Art Gallery
Off limits for commercial use
For decades the grounds around Shreveport's Norton Art Gallery have been a premier spot for photographers trying to capture the beauty surrounding their subjects. But now the focus has shifted to the grounds themselves and why they're off limits to professional shutterbugs. Their webite says "Effective immediately, no commercial photography (photography for hire) or commercial enterprise of any kind will be permitted on the museum grounds. The site also says they will only allow school-affiliated educational photography classes which have made advance appointments to use the ground." The gallery and the grounds are still open to the general public. And other than the beautiful garden there's more to see on the property. The art gallery houses incomparable collections of American and European paintings, sculptures and decorative arts spanning more than four centuries. And there's a library on site which houses a research library containing approximately 10,000 volumes, consisting of books on the fine arts, United States history, Louisiana history, and genealogy.
