An 18-year-old man was killed over the weekend after a dispute that started in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Hope, Ark. and ended with gunfire as the group headed out of town to fight, authorities said.
Police said a group of people had gathered outside the restaurant, then agreed to meet at a location out in the county to fight.
As they were driving to a location in the west part of the county early Saturday, the driver of the lead vehicle in the caravan of seven cars and trucks hit his brakes, Hempstead County sheriff's deputies said. The vehicle behind him tried to go around him and was rammed.
Sheriff's investigators said Josh Brown, 21, got out of his truck and fired a shotgun in the air. More shots were fired and Steve Lynn Dean Jr. was shot in the chest. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Hope early Saturday.
Three people suffered minor injuries from the shotgun pellets and another was hurt in the wreck, authorities said.
Brown surrendered to Arkansas State Police in a wooded area nearby.
