LaPlace, La. -

An overflow crowd of relatives, friends and law enforcement officers have gathered at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where a Mass is being celebrated in honor of St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff's Deputy Jeremy Triche.

The 27-year-old from LaPlace was shot and killed along with Deputy Brandon Nielsen, a 34-year-old Destrehan resident, on Thursday while investigating the shooting of another deputy who was wounded while working a traffic detail at the Valero refinery.

Seven people have been arrested for the shootings.

The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/TQ6bCG ) several people, including patients at the Twin Oaks Nursing Home, came out Monday to watch the procession of uniformed officers file pass en route to the church. One nursing home employee says they did so as a show of support.
