A Shreveport man was killed Monday night when he was hit by a car as he tried to cross North Market Street at Martin Luther King Drive.

Police identified the dead man as Tommy Jackson, 54, of Legardy Street.

No charges were filed against the driver, 20-year-old Emily Joe Heflin. Police said preliminary indications are the accident was unavoidable. 

A police officer who was directing traffic at the accident scene was slightly injured when he had to jump aside to avoid being hit by a car. He fell and hurt his shoulder, police said.
