The murder trial of Tanya "Little Feather" Smith, accused of involvement in the murders of two Bastrop police officers last year, will be held in Bossier Parish because of extensive publicity surrounding the case in Morehouse Parish.

The trial is scheduled to begin Feb. 9 in Benton.

Smith is charged with two counts of second-degree murder and eight drug and gun charges in connection with the Aug. 10, 2007 shootings of two police detectives. Smith had been traveling with Dennis Clem, who shot the officers at a motel in downtown Bastrop and was himself killed in a standoff with authorities.

Smith was recently convicted of federal firearms charges. She faces up to 25 years in federal prison when she is sentenced.
