President Barack Obama's message is being heard loud and clear across the nation.
Gun sales have skyrocketed here in Arklatex with assault rifles flying off store shelves.
Les, who only wants to use his first name, bought one of the last semi-automatic rifles in Lorant's Sport's Center, Wednesday.
"Me, personally, I just don't want to get caught to where I'm not able to buy something that I want," he said.
Les confirmed that he is also buying the rifle for security, "If I needed it for protection I would have it, I'd rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it."
"Gun sales increased right before the presidential election, they've continued to increase and then after the shooting in Newtown it just exploded," said Charlie Rich, manager of Long-Range Alley in Frierson.
As far as preventing situations such as the Sandy Hook tragedy, Rich believes if retired military and law enforcement agents across the country stepped up to the plate by volunteering their time the nation would be safer.
On the other hand, Les believes that having the right to purchase a gun may be the only way we can protect ourselves from another tragedy.
