Prayer Vigil for Joyce Bowman
Hundreds of well wishers filled the pews at Morning Star Baptist Church in Shreveport to support Caddo Commissioner Joyce Bowman through her cancer diagnosis and treatment.
"She wanted to look into the faces of people in this community, and I tell you they are coming from everywhere with cards and phone calls," says friend and vigil organizer Cynthia Hightower-Jenkins. "It tells me that love transcends. You don't have to know someone to love them."
Full of optimism and dressed all in pink, Bowman told friends to pray for her while she fights cancer. She says she knows how to fight and does it well.
"I just want you to see all these people here tonight, Joyce, who are prayer warriors here with you tonight."
Bowman says prayers helped her through some of her toughest moments, and she will continue to rely on them as she continues her treatment.
Bowman begins full head radiation Friday, March 7. She says that is God's way of opening another door after doctors told her she was not a candidate for gamma knife surgery.
