A Shreveport man is hoping to turn a Highway 80 residential property into a winery.

Robert Lewis has already been given the green light by the Metropolitan Planning Commission and is awaiting the rezoning approval by the Caddo Parish Commission.

"I think it will be a valuable asset to the community," said Caddo Parish Commissioner Ken Epperson (Dist. 12).

Epperson says he's encouraging his colleagues to approve the rezoning because he thinks a winery on Greenwood Road could be economically and culturally beneficial.

It would take several years to get the place up and running, but Lewis hopes to have a retail bottle shop at the front of the property along with a vineyard.
