A Shreveport man already wanted for purse snatchings faces more charges after police say he tried to steal money from a pizza restaurant on Wednesday.

Police say Matthew Hardy, 23, walked into the Pizza Hut on Bert Kouns and grabbed a handful of cash as employees were counting it.

The thief took off running but restaurant employee Ronnie Woodruff chased him through a nearby apartment complex and got help from an off-duty police officer.

Hardy at the time was wanted in connection with a string of purse snatchings.

Hardy was booked for felony theft. He's also charged with three counts of purse snatching and for a burglary earlier this month.

Hardy's alleged accomplice in the purse snatchings, Jerry Wayne Peters, 21, was arrested last Friday, police said.
